Would ‘24‘ really have been a success without Tivo? (or other PVRs). Given the series is long and you really can’t miss an episode it seems hard to see how people would watch it without Tivo.

I myself watched the first 2 series on DVD but Tivo now captures each and every episode. Okay, so sometimes Tivo gets an episode twice, or needs a gentle reminder that the series is still going. While people criticize Tivo and expect them to go out of business but for me they will leave a legacy. That legacy is that they changed the way we view TV. Add to that, how its opened up possibilities for producers and studios to experiment with new formats for TV.
