It looks like the US is already running low on the H1-B visas

As of 16 May, 2006, 6,465 [H1-B] applications had been approved with 32,980 pending approval. This leaves approximately 26,000 applications that could still be submitted and approved prior to 01 October

UPDATE:
Turns out that by the time I wrote this they’d actually completely run out of H1-B visas. That’s it until October 2007 for anyone wanting a visa. They can start applying 1st April 2007. Yet another sign that this system needs to be reformed.
