San Diego

On the way to Palm Springs, Nikki and I took a detour to San Diego for Christins graduation from UCSD. Thanks to Alaska Air for over booking the flight which meant we were on stand-by for the flight! We did however got onboard, as the last passengers.
Nikki had booked the hotel, Sheraton SD, which looked very posh and described itself as “close to the gas lamp”. Turns out it was actually by the airport. This isn’t such a big deal in San Diego as the airport is almost in downtown.
The following morning we got up early to be at the graduation which for some unknown reason, stated at 8:30AM. That’s just a cruel way to finish your education.

Christin was on the stage for the entire, 2 1/2 hour event, as she won an award for being one of the top 7 students in her graduating class.

Unfortunately I had forgotten to put any suncream on, so by noon I had a nice red tan on one side of my face. The rest of the day was taken up with lunch, at Georges which is simply an amazing location overlooking the ocean in La Jolla. Then walking along Pacific beach before heading back to San Diego for dinner at a mexican restaurant which specialized in Mole.

To round off the trip we took a quick jaunt down to the Gas Lamp for a drink. It’s not quite how I remember it. Perhaps that was due to it being graduation weekend but it resembled a bar lined street in Magaluf.

The next day we drove to Palm Springs to enter into the 110F heat.
