Hearst Castle

For our anniversary, Nikki and I stayed down in Cambria, CA. Staying in a lovely hotel on Moonstone Beach called Moonstone Landing. It was one of the best hotels I’ve stayed in for a long time. Located right on the beach it was amazing.

Well to the point…I’d arranged for us to visit Hearst Castle the following day. Now this really was an amazing place. Build by the rich Hearst family as a kinda retreat. Located 5 miles from the main road and consisting of many building, each elaborately furnished with antique panels and art from Europe.

The most amazing part for me was the outdoor pool. This was built 3 times, each time larger, before setting on this design.

Obviously the inspiration came from Greek architects. The fact is that most of it was designed by Mr Hurst himself and executed, in the 1930s, by a woman called Julia Morgan. She worked on every detail of the castle which remains unfinished to this day.
If you are ever in California, I’d highly recommend you go and see this.
