Halloween – USA Style

This being my first Halloween in the USA it’s prooving to be quite an experience. Firstly for those of you who don’t know; they do things different over here. Firstly it’s a huge holiday here not just about witches and scary things like in the UK. However they do still have the pumpkins. My first encounter with Halloween was going to buy a pumpkin. Not a the local supermarket but at a “Pumpkin Patch”. These are large fields fill with pumpkins, from very small to larger than you care to imagine. (Wish i’d take a picture of the huge pumpkin, it must have been 4 ft tall)

So we got our pumpkins from, famous for its pumpkins, Halfmoon Bay.

The big thing here to dress up for Halloween. Not just in scary costumes on the day but to work, days before, after. It’s crazy. Every shop, bar and restaurant has something Halloween related. There are even stores, which appear from nowhere, to fulfill the needs of the “Happy Halloween” customers. God knows what they do, or if they exist, the rest of the year.

Next was the costume…

Having done some very quick investigation on the internet I found my choice. A whoopie cushion costume

Have you ever seen something so stupid. All I need now is the fart box.

So I’ve been invited to 2 parties, one in the post town of Los Gatos and the other at a hotel in downtown San Jose. This one is going to feature Karaoke, one of my least favourite things, but it should still be good.
