Motor Museum

One of the items on my list of things to do before I leave England was to go to the Motor Heritage Museum. This is the largest private collection of cars in the world. They’re all English cars of course.

It used to be the British Leyland museum but has now become a private trust. It’s located just off the M40 between Coventry and Birmingham, in a little town called Gaydon, home to Land Rover.
As I had Monday off work and was driving past so decided to go in. Having driven past for about 8 years I was keen to find out what was inside. They do have an impressively large collection of cars.

Along with the classic cars they have a number of film cars, including Lady Penelope’s car from the recent Thunderbirds movie and Lara Crofts Land Rover from Tomb Raider.

Given that this was a Monday the place was empty, me and another 3 people in the place. There’s a conference facility there too. This is hidden a set of escalators at the back where you’ll also find some more cars. Again hidden in the corner is a small cafeteria. Turns out they actually have nice food in there. I was expecting something like the usual museum food, and it’s a little cheaper than the Motorway food too boot.

Oh, and on my recent fascination with the state of toilets in public buildings and bars…this has an excellent toilet! Everything about this place was very British too, none of the American hand dryers you see everywhere…these were made in England! Oh yes!
