I didn’t drive in Bali, we were driven everywhere in Bali. We got a lot of advice about not driving given how dangerous the roads are and how there are no rules. Apparently; “nobody breaks the rules of the road in Bali, there are no rules”.
Here’s a few things I experienced
- Scooters are suitable transport for up to 4 people
- A scooter carrying only one person is taking up too much road space
- Horns are used to indicate; you are passing, getting someone’s attention, approaching a junction and about to go round a corner
- When there are two lanes, you drive between the lanes unless there’s someone next to you
- When there’s 1 lane in each direction and nobody else on the road, drive in the center of the road
- Car should never be drive about 35mph
- Trucks can go any speed
