Scottish + Subtitles

While watching the news the other night they were talking to a former British Army. This guy happened to be Scottish. The American broadcaster felt the need to put subtitles on the screen, just in case the

AppleTV

My AppleTV finally arrived yesterday. Wow! It’s so simple to use and setup. I sync’d over all my music, and videos from the MacBook Pro. This uses about half of it’s capacity. However, I also have an old ‘lampy’ iMac. Given that it has a basic Airport card I was worried it wouldn’t be able to stream video. But sure enough it does, obviously it’s a little slow to start but it works really well!

TomTom adds Buddies

TomTom has announced Buddy support for their GPS navigation devices. This appears to be a IM and location system.

Seems that stalkers and suspicious wives now have all the tools they need. While driving to that secret rendezvous remember, someone could be watching you. 😉

Pourable Mustard

Apparently there’s been a major breakthrough in mustard technology. We now have “Pourable Mustard”

I am here to report that it is indeed pourable and with the same great taste. 🙂

Facebook not MySpace

I’ve recently joined Facebook, as more of my friends seem to be on it. Apparently it’s not going to end up like MySpace which for me has just become another way to get Spam. The number of friend requests I get from single girls who want to be my friend and have me click through to some random site. Not to mention that MySpace seems to be continually brokenpicture-3.png
This is the message I get whenever I visit MySpace!

Complete Californian

Finally got a BBQ! That’s now all the necessary things to be California now!

The BBQ actually came from Nikki’s family, they had a few spare. It’s very kind of them to give it to me, soon I’ll have them over to put it to good use.

Well, now I have to head off to Trader Joes and get some meat and veg to cook. Oooh, and corn!

El Rego

Last night I went to The Register’s US launch party as The Tiedhouse in Mountain View.

There was a very good turnout from local companies, mainly engineers or PR people. As usual at any Register event, drinking beer was the primary activity. I really didn’t know how large El Rego had got since its modest beginnings. They’ve got something like 25 staff in the UK and a growing in the bay area.

Being Irish

As usual, March 18th brought Guinness. It’s rare for me to drink the stuff, but on St Patrick’s day what else can you do.
Nikki and I, along with Tara and Matt went down to Molley Magee’s in Mountain View. The crowd was much different to normal, in fact, more normal. Post midnight Pho and then a cold walk home finished the night off nicely 🙂

Trader Vics

You may remember a while back I talked about Trader Vics, the home of the Mai Tai. Well this Friday we went back to sample some more of their fine drinks. Mai Tai’s, followed by Scorpion Bowls and a Run Keg. Wow, those were some strong drinks. Rudi and her new man, Odin, joined us before we all headed up to Bay Meadows to watch the horse races. Only problem was that it was closing by the time we got up there.

Oh well, never mind! We had a great night anyway!

Free fix

Today I went to American Tire to have the screw removed from my tyre (sic). They were able to patch it while I waited. However, then I proved I’m still a stranger in this country

[Salesman] You’re all done sir
[Me] Okay thanks….(i stand there waiting)
[Salesman] Can we help you with anything else sir?
[Me] Erm, yeah, how much to do I need to pay you
[Salesman] Nothing, it’s free, just come back when you need new tires

Well wow! That’s just good service.

Screw this!

Today the low tyre (or tire for you Americans) pressure warning light came on. Not a good sign. A bit of extra air in the tired seemed to do the trick…..or so i thought. Turns out there’s a screw completely lodged in the center of my tyre. Guess the Scion holds up well with a screw loose, something else to get fixed tomorrow.

British Summer Time

Well, summer time is here. The USA has already moved to summer time, not the excellent British summer time but the hotter more predictable California summer time.
This is my favourite week of the year, suddenly the days are longer, the evenings are warm. As I write this I’m chilling on my balcony with a chilled glass of white wine.

Vegas baby!

Been in Las Vegas this weekend for Pramods stag party (or Bachelor party). I’ll skip the details but lets just say it was a full on party and I know why people only stay in Vegas for a few days.

Parents

Yay! My parents have finally booked a trip to come and visit me. All I have to do now if find out things to show them. As they’ve been to the area before, especially SF, they’ve done all the regular tourist things.
