Sunday afternoon was the time for me to take the bike out for a fast ride. After getting out of suburban Los Altos into the hills. Clearly I’d chosen a route that was a little too steep. Turning around, back towards 280 found a little road that runs along the side of the freeway. After getting nearly to Cupertino it was time to head back to get ready for a BBQ.
My pace is slowly picking up and distances increasing. This week will be my first attemp to ride to work at least once.

Psychic faire advert
While having coffee on Sunday morning I picked up a paper. In it there were a series of adverts for events. They included some for Psychic Faire’s. I really hope this was to attract attendees and not those taking part, shouldn’t they know already? 😉
The Bean Scene in Sunnyvale have a really nice selection of breakfasts and sandwiches. It’s one of those places I’ve walked past and never bean (sic) in.
Busy weekend
This weekend has been very busy
- Lunch at the Ritz in Halfmoon way for Nikki’s Aunts b’day
- Mensch’s 10th anniversary dinner
- BBQ with lots of wine
(It was a lot sunnier than the photo through glass makes out)

Wharf to Wharf
Nikki and I continued the running theme by taking part in the Wharf to Wharf run between Santa Cruz and Capitol. It’s mainly a fun event, but the first 10K I’ve run in. Given the crowds and being my first run, 62 minutes wasn’t such a bad time.
Cycling around the valley
Skyland run
It’s time to do the Skyland run again, doesn’t seem like a year ago. Anyway – the 5K run, which we turned up for on time this year is a relaxed race in the Santa Cruz mountains. My time was 27.04, which someone meant I won the 20-30 age category
Finally bought a bike
After months of searching and indecision I finally decided on a bike, a ‘07 Fugi Roubaix Pro.
I went out for a quick ride after picking the bike up and remember how fast road bikes really are. This of course means I’ll now be at the local bike shop every other week for gadgets, clothes and parts.
Thanks to Chester for all his advice on which bikes to look at.
Work parties
I’ve been busy with a lot of work parties recently, so not a lot of time for blogging…..hopefully more to come soon.
July 4th
This was my first July 4th in California. Shaw and Jessica threw a party at their house in Santa Clara, Pretending not to be British, I willfully drank the Miller Lite (blah!) and ate hot-dogs and burgers. Rather than walk down to the park to watch the fireworks we watched from the front yard.
As usual, Chester did a much better job of capturing the moment on camera
