Nikki is having another art opening at Thursday, February 1st from 7-9pm at diPietro Todd Salon. This isn’t her work but the work she does curate for.

Snowboarding at Squaw
On Friday Nikki and I headed up to Tahoes Squaw Valley for a bit of snowboarding. After our previous attempt in Thanksgiving week being too warm we were hoping for more snow. There was enough snow to have fun but it was packed and a little icy. However, for me this is still just as exciting.
The trip was arranged by Pramod who has a time share in the resort itself, we’re talking less than 100 yards from the lifts. I’m obviously well out of shape as today I feel completely exhausted.
In summary: 2 drunken nights, 1 slightly damaged board and one broken me.

Four hours of my life gone
Already, 4 hours of my life are gone to yet another series of 24. What a great 4 hours they have been. I’ve got a feeling this is going to be the best series ever. So just a reminder, do not phone me on Monday nights, I won’t be answering the phone!
Monster Trucks
It’s about time I caught a bit of American culture. So what better than to do it in a trashy way, bring on the MONSTER TRUCKS!!! I remember being about 10 and watching a monster truck competition on TV from the Metro-dome in Minneapolis. Whenever I’ve been in California they have not come through (not as popular here as in other parts of the country)

Freeze Warning
Today a freeze warning was issued over the bay area.
With temperatures dropping to 25F (-3C) during the night. Apparently this is big and worrying news in California.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a State of Emergency citing “conditions of extreme peril to the safety of persons and property … as a result of extreme low temperatures and freezing conditions”
Come on people, this isn’t very cold at all! Okay, so you have to put gloves on and can’t just walk around in a t-shirt. This is how the rest of us normally feel every winter.
toasted or not?
Today I learnt a valuable lesson, when ordering a chicken salad sandwich and asked, “Would you like that toasted?” The answer should be “No, thanks!”. Why you may ask? Well because there’s not enough “squish” in the bread so all the chicken comes out of the sides, just like when you eat a BigMac.

Hanging Art
Once again it’s art hanging time at the salon for Nikki. This time the art is by Johnny Siu and Kevin Keul. We removed the previous at in minutes and then Kevin showed up early. With his work unpacked it fitted on all the existing hooks. After Johnny turned up we found places for his work including the bottle tops. Being an engineer I made a 2 inch spaces 5 by 6 grid to hang them on.
The next opening is going to be at diPietro Todd in Palo Alto on Thursday February 1st.

Using RapidMetaBlog
I’ve slowly been reinstalling the software on my Macbook Pro, after it jumped off my desk. When it came in reinstalling the WordPress Dashboard widget there were some new comers. I’ve chosen RapidMetaBlog (using some metaweblog API). It’s quite slick and good enough for posting quick comments like this.
Haircut
After many weeks of complaining about my hair I finally got it cut. Thanks to Rosanna at Lilys Salon in Cupertino
NYE
Now that I’ve moved to California there’s no more mad Manchester or Loud London nights. Things were more civilized this year. We went to Napa to have dinner at Cuvee.
I had expected a lot from this restaurant, unfortunately things didn’t got well from the start. Once sat down glasses of Champagne were delivered to our table, however, most of it didn’t make it as far as the table, rather covering my suit and Nikki’s dress. We were soaked!
Things didn’t get much better, with Nikki’s chicken tasting just bad, other drinks not arriving and so on it was not a good restaurant experience. It was only thanks to the people we were with that the evening was a success.
