Site Update

I’ve had a reshuffle of my site so the blog is now on the front. On the right there are now links to photos and the random useful stuff. Hopefully this means more people will visit my site.

Robert K Weiss

In Blues Brothers 2000, during Elwood’s motivational speech to the band after running out of petrol names several musicans. At the end of the list is Robert K Weiss. The band are turn each other and say “Who’s Robert K Weiss?”, “On idea”. It’s a bit of a question as to how this is. However, a search on Google found that Robert K Weiss is in fact the producer of Blues Brothers (the original) and Blues Brothers 2000. Apparently it’s an in joke.
My guess had been that is was the guy who asked “Who’s Robert K Weiss?” Looks like I was wrong

Celebrity Big Brother

Celebrity Big Brother has now finished in the UK; thankfully, I’ve not seen any of it but it’s hard to miss it in the news. It turns out that the producers have been given a bit of a problem. The winner of Celebrity Big Brother is not a Celebrity. She worked in a pub or something like that. I wonder what we’ll get next, will “I’m a Celebrity get me out of here” become “I’m not a Celebrity keep me in here”. The thing that really gets me is why people like to watch these programs. It just makes me mad to see these so called celebrities are actually un-intellectual, classless idiots. It’s only the even more stupid viewers and readers of lag newspapers and magazines that allow these people to perpetuate their careers.

Business Networking

I’ve been looking for a suitable business network to join in the UK. The idea is to meet people in business and generally network a little more than I do. Finally there was a world wide group (Ecademy) starting a network meeting in Manchester. The event was in a bar with little structure, just generally chatting to people. However it became clear early on that this was not the right group. There were only 2 groups of people there; those selling their own networking event and those in small business.

iPod video on your TV for cheap

Someone today told me about this (2 pages) article which describes how to connect a video iPod to your TV without buying expensive cables. If you own a camcorder, like me, you’ve probably got an AV->RCA cable. That cable works just fine as long as you swap some of the connectors over. I won’t bother going into details here as the article says all that.

Plastic Carrier Bags

For no reason that I’m aware of…today in Sainsburys I wondered who decided what size plastic carrier bags should be. There doesn’t seem to be someone who invented them. They always a little too small for my liking. The size is surprisingly practical though as they hold a nice carrying weight.
Now if you go to these posh clothing stores they give you the hugely oversized card ones but that’s just to show off. So I don’t think they count.
ok, weird, so end of comments 🙂

New Router

This site should be must faster and more reliable now. I have upgraded the router to a nice DLink DSL Modem which is faster and more reliable than the old USB modem I had before.

World Health Organization

How come the World Health Organization (WHO) are only mentioned on the news when there’s something like a famine or outbreak of bird flu. Shouldn’t we hear more about how they’ve made the world healthier. Of course, they could change their name to World Illness Organization…doesn’t quite have the same ring to it, does it!

Walking out in the fresh air

Decided to go and explore the lovely features of Heaton Park in Manchester this weekend. It was nice to get out in the fresh air and take a walk. Crazy cold though, glad I have that thick scarf. The colours up there were great though, really green at this time of year. Of course all the kids were there with their parents playing with their new radio control toys and bikes.

Tand Legs

I’m not quite sure what these are but it was interesting to see them. Didn’t have the guts to try them though.

Valid Ticket

While shopping this Christmas break I parked in a multistory car park. The ticket slightly amused me. “Ticket valid from time of entry”, when else would it be valid from? Since the only time you get a ticket is at the barrier as you enter. Someone obviously didn’t think that through very well. Clearly the, time of entry and entry are shown on the ticket.

Sodoku

I’ve been working away from home a lot recently and the world has passed me by. Things I have not been aware of are, earthquakes and other disasters, change of Conservative party leadership in England and Sodoku. The last one came to an end on Christmas day when my Aunty was explaining them to me. She then produced a newspaper containing 12 puzzles for the holiday period (1 per day). I set to work with a few rules and a 10 second glance at the Carol Vorderman’s How to Do Sudoku book. Two messed up puzzles later I’d figured it out. Here’s my completed one
sudoku
I think I’m hooked.
